Answer:
I've found several of these batteries are only providing around 8 volts instead of new fresh out of the package. At around 6 volts, the typical garage door opener will stop functioning. Sounds like your batteries were no where near 12 volts when you opened the package.

I've bought several dual-packs at Walmarts in the area. Fresh out of the pack they registered around 8.1 volts. My garage door opener fails to function when the voltage reaches around 6 volts. That doesn't leave much battery life. What is an acceptable voltage for a new battery? Why doesn't the dual-pack show a manufacturing or use by date?

Answer:
I've used that same battery (A23) for my ceiling fan remote control. I don't know why they don't show an expiration date, but I've been using the same battery now for almost 8 years without a hitch, so I'm thinking maybe between the 8.1 and the 6 volt readings you may still have a lot of life left in those batteries.

Thank you for your question. These batteries are designed to register at 12V when they are new. I have asked a member of our customer support team to contact you via email to get you batteries that have the intended lifespan and determine why these batteries aren't measuring at the correct voltage.

While distribution varies by account, our records indicate that Walmart, The Home Depot and Lowe's all carry the A23 battery from Energizer. Hopefully, you have one or more of those retailers in the Mequite area. Otherwise, this product can be found online as well.

The A23 has a typical capacity of 45 mAh to 6.0 Volts. You can find this, and all other technical information, on Energizer's website under the technical info link at the bottom of the home page. For this battery in particular, I've attached the PSDS link below.

Max Amp. that I can drain?

I want to use this battery in my project. I have a camera that drains 150mA at 12Vdc. And my circuit will drain appr. 200mA. How can I use this battery in my circuit?

I.e. Is connecting 4 of them in parallel a solution? If yes, what would be the battery life?

What is the internal resistance of the battery?

Answer:
We spoke to our technology team and here is their recommendation for your particular needs.

An A23 battery cannot handle a 150 mA drain rate required by this application. After reviewing the discharge curve for an A23 battery under a 75 mA drain shows service less than a minute. A 150 mA drain on an A23 battery would pull the voltage very low within seconds. Even multiple A23 batteries in parallel would probably not provide satisfactory service.

For a 150 mA drain, eight E96 AAAA batteries in series would be an option worth considering. http://data.energizer.com/PDFs/E96.pdf For longer runtimes, eight AAA or eight AA batteries in series may be needed.
