Love the charger works perfect I have never had a problem with the charger.Works perfect,I have had it for going on 4 years...Love it May 4, 2013
universal value charger I purchased the energizer universal value charger. I purchased 4 c batteries and 2 d batteries. I put them in my daughters swing and ones they died I put them in the charger no lights came on. At the time I didn't no there was lights the next morning I took them out and put them in the swing they lasted about five minutes. I do not recommend this charger. They are not cheap and they don't work. I am now stuck with this because I am sure the store wont take it back without the box. March 25, 2013
Does not work The LED charge status indicator lights do not work. Batteries barely charge. How can I return this product for replacement? March 9, 2013
no lights says it has statis light to indicate battery charge no lights on this unit will return to store for refund February 14, 2013
Less than 10 charging sessions and now its dead Purchased this product and $80 worth of D cell batteries and $30 worth of A cell batteries to use in our battery operated Energizer emergency lights and a camping fan. I have recharged the A cells maybe 3 times/set, and the D cell batteries 3-4x/set. Charging light doesn't work, batteries aren't charged, but the unit warms up and there's now an electrical odor. Checked and double checked to make sure batteries are in good condition and inserted properly. Now to decide whether I should sink in another $20 in order to use the batteries or chuck the whole thing up as a bad idea. So much for reduce/reuse/recycle. January 29, 2013
Used for two months then quit Very angry like other user. I needed 4 D batteries for my baby's swing. Expensive charger and batteries. Everything worked good up until just recently. The charger started to act funny where the lights wouldn't light up when it was plugged in with the batteries in, but if you unplugged and plugged back in, it would work. NOT ANY MORE. I've barely used this thing and now i'm stuck with the batteries that I can't charge! Like the other user, I'm extremely disappointed and angry. I bought the charger at the large retailer that we all know around the country and now they don't carry it anymore. December 17, 2012
Green light let's you know you batteries are fully charge Had this for over 5 years and never had a problem with it. I Love it. September 8, 2012
Not worth it Charged 4 D batteries overnight for a baby swing. The swing petered out halfway through the night. I put the batteries in the charger and the lights were green like they were fully charged. Unreliable! Not to mention the batteries are ridiculously expensive to buy. August 18, 2012

For instance, after installing 4 AAA batteries and plug in charger, the 2 green lights go on. The chart says to charge 4 hours. My question is: If I'm not around at the time they are fully charged, will the lights go off and charger turn off automatically?

Thank you for your great question. The Energizer Universal Value charger has a timer controlled shutoff mechanism. This means that the charger will discontinue charging after 16.5 hours, not when the battery may already be fully charged. Hope this helps. Any additional questions, let us know here or give us a call at 1.800.383.7323.

Thank you for this great question, I would be happy to assist you. Regarding our chargers all lights should be coming on for you when charging the batteries. Depending if you are charging 2 or 4 batteries could make a difference. If you are just charging 2 batteries, make sure they are placed in pairs either on the left or right hand side or the lights won’t come on. If you are doing every thing correctly and you’re still not getting any lights, I would encourage you to call us and let one of our representatives assist you under the terms of our guarantee. 1-800-383-7323.

Again thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Why are rechargeable batteries 1.2 Volts?

A standard Alkiline is 1.5 volts so if I use rechargables in a 12 volt system will I lose performance?
I would only be getting 9.8 volts using 8 batteries.
The application I want to use the rechargeables in is a portable radio that takes 8 "D" batteries and the Akilines don't last long so I was thinking rechargable and then I found out they are only 1.2 volts each.

Also do you guys make a charger that will charge 8 "D" batteries at one time?

Answer:
Thank you for these great questions, I would be happy to assist you. The electrochemical reaction of the chemicals used in rechargeable NiMH batteries result in a voltage slightly less than batteries using a standard 1.5 volt alkaline chemistry. However, the alkaline battery voltage slowly drops as they are used in a device. Therefore, devices are designed to function within a voltage range. Typically devices will function with a battery voltage between 1.6 volts and 0.9 volts per cell. Rechargeable NiMH batteries start out with a slightly less voltage but will maintain this voltage (flatter discharge curve) better than alkaline batteries. NiMH rechargeable batteries supply voltage in the range typically required by 1.5 volt applications and therefore are suitable for use in these devices.

At this time Energizer does not have a charger that will charge 8 D cell batteries at the same time.

How do green lights work?

The "Energizer " recharge value
was included in a gift that requiers AA & AAA batteries, so I don't have a reeceipt. No problem because I trust I will get answeres from a reputable Co. as Energizerso. I do not wish to replace ,return etc' the charger. Just need an answer so I know what & why they go on or off etc'. I printed the manual but it does not tell anything about the operation of lites. Thank you,

Thank you for this great question, I would be happy to assist you. Regarding this charger (CHFCV2) if you are charging the AA/C/D cell batteries the light will shut off for you after the correct amount of time. When it comes to the AAA/9v batteries the lights will NOT shut off due to the low MAH number, these batteries will have to be removed manually when the time is completed. If the lights are flashing, then there is typically something wrong with the batteries. I have listed the following issues that could be a cause of a flashing light.
Charging different MAH numbers in charger
Charging different brands at the same time
Charging NICD batteries vs. NIMH
Old batteries (over two years old)
Dirty contacts (easy clean, take pencil eraser to contacts in charger, top and bottom)

Please feel free to call our consumer affairs office if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for this great question, I would be happy to assist you. We do not recommend keeping the charger plugged in longer then the time allowed. When charging the 9v battery this charger will not shut off for you, so there is a chance of over charging. You want to make sure you remove the battery as soon as the charge is completed.
