Answer: 

Thank you for taking the time to contact Energizer. Thank you for this great question, I would be happy to assist you. Regarding this product, you want to twist of the cap counter clockwise, once the cap is removed place one AA battery in the center of the light negative side down first then place the 2nd AA battery negative side down. Replace the cap and you should have light.
