Keep Safe. Keep Going®

Welcome to the Power Through It All information center. Here you will find everything you need to participate in the new 2009 Power Through It All program.

For 21 years, the International Association of Fire Chiefs ("IAFC") and Energizer have worked together with local fire departments in the fall to remind people to Change Your Clock Change Your Battery®. This spring, the partnership is expanding to include a new family safety reminder that will encourage families to be prepared for power outages caused by springtime storms and the severe weather many experience during hurricane season.

The Power Through It All program provides tips for preparing an emergency power kit so that families won’t be left in the dark during prolonged power outages. An emergency power kit should include a flashlight for every member of the household, extra batteries to keep them running and a battery-operated cell phone charger so they can stay safe and connected.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, candles are the third leading cause of injuries from home fires, following cooking and heating. In fact, one home fire caused by candles is reported every 34 minutes on average. Power Through It All urges people not to use candles for light when the power goes out. The simple step of making sure there are fresh batteries in flashlights and lanterns when moving the clocks forward this spring, as well as preparing an emergency power kit, could save a life.

The spring time change occurs this year on Sunday, March 8, and hurricane season begins on Monday, June 1. We hope you will join us in this program and reach out to your community with the Power Through It All message.

Participation is easy and free. Simply download the Power Through It All tool kit and inserts for suggestions for implementing the efforts in your local community and building awareness through the help of local media and business partners.

The tool kit contains great community outreach tools:
