Is this working properly?

I have just tried to use the component cables with a PS2 and had to use the yellow video cable in place of the green component cable to get a picture. Is this normal? Next question. The picture on the plasma tv now has many small dots in component cable mode that video mode with the yellow cable alone didn't produce. I can't make any settings changes to make them go away. What is wrong? so 1, yellow for green, and 2, what is with the dots?
