Forest fires are a growing natural hazard in most regions of the United States, posing a threat to life and property, particularly where native ecosystems (such as a forest) meet developed, urban areas. Some of the most common causes of forest fires include lightning, human errors and arson; however, heat waves, droughts, and climate changes such as El Nino can also have a dramatic effect on the risk of wildfires.
